Legal due diligence is perhaps one of the greatest ‘grudge purchases’ in a transaction. With most M&A deals, information reviewed during the due diligence process is archived and forgotten about once the deal is closed. But legal departments can now use technology to manipulate, aggregate and analyze information for ongoing risk management, business intelligence and strategic value.
Legal departments have the power to extract constant value from the pre-acquisition review, which is typically written off as a necessary evil with no use once the transaction is complete. This is as wrong as throwing money away!
